- We are expecting back to back visits from grandparents and are very excited--although annoyed with all the cleaning it ensues and why on EARTH I don't do a better job keeping up on that stuff on an every day basis.
- Izzy did her first long course swim meet, did great and had a ball. We were wondering whether or not to keep her in swimming since she hasn't been trying as hard during practices and seems to have lost interest. We are now wondering if it's simply that she's not hard-wired for long daily practices (very short attention span, that one), and if she just simply needs to do MORE meets!
- Mary has been running modified track--and doing great. But we can tell she's still not "sold" on this sport and would rather be swimming (but NOT at the same time as track, OH NO). Just like with swimming, she is an endurance runner. She doesn't want to admit it, tho, and keeps signing up for the shorter races. Significantly better with distances. Thursday is her last meet.
- Baseball and softball are in full swing which means that life is complicated to the nth degree with running three kids to five different sport schedules (plus two Girl Scout troops!). Keith is the youngest kid on his team, so he's no longer the Big Fish. He's learning humility as he has to sit the bench more often than when he was in the not-so-good league of players. He's having a few problems hitting this year, but he's doing great with his fielding/pitching. And Izzy is surprising me with her softball abilities.
- I took Izzy's Girl Scout troop on their first camping trip/overnight last weekend, and it went great. Until I got my mini-van stuck in the mud. Three people got stuck. I was the only one who ended up having to call a two truck (which insurance did not cover! grrr!). Ah well. The kids were well-behaved and had a great time. I'm looking forward to another overnight attempt in the fall.
- Sophie is sort of sleeping through the night. And sort of in her crib. Sometimes. Many nights I can plop her into her crib, and she falls asleep after a few minutes fussing, no problem. Many nights, like last night, I have to give in after awhile and cuddle up with her as it's obvious there will be no sleep to be had otherwise. But now she no longer just cuddles in my arms--she flops around all over the place. It's better if John is in bed with us--as that extra "body boundary" to keep her contained, but lately he's been giving sleeping on the couch a try again. Of course, the couch is so uncomfortable, I wonder how he hasn't figured out that a toddler who fusses at 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning is better than a bad back..!
- I have Sophie weaned down to 2 or 3 feedings a day now. My baby is so grown up! She is learning new words: shoes, Izzy, sissy, thank you, etc. She is such a funny little thing! But she is into EVERYTHING and driving us nuts!
So Mary is home and grumpy, and I just LOVE thirteen!, so I'm off to hand over the computer to her so she can finish ALL THAT HOMEWORK, OMG!!
