Spring Training

The little league and tee-ball seasons are ON. And I may just finally start sprouting those gray hairs now. Just this week, I have one (and usually TWO) kids who have practice FOUR nights out of the next FIVE.

(Where's that paper sack? I'm starting to hyperventilate.)

In preparation for Keith's first practice tonight (Mary's already had FOUR within the last week), I took him to finally get the rest of his hair cut off. I was so excited to be able to requisition the usual "Four on the bottom, and trimmed just a tad longer with the scissors on the top." OH! He looks GORGEOUS! A whole new boy! He said he got a lot of compliments at school (I'll bet those teachers were all thinking, Oh God! About time that poor boy had a decent haircut!). His teacher said he looked older--he looked as if he could be SEVEN! (Keith really thought that was neat.)

Well, we got the baseball pants, stirrup socks, cleats, and baseball hat on him, and it was just....neat. With the gear and the new, neat hair cut, he was just so BOYISH! I mean, I know he's not my baby anymore, but seeing him all sported up like that just made me so proud.

'Course, being the Mom, I almost forget to have him put on his cup (he still doesn't understand the necessity of this, but his wiser father KNOWS and insists upon it). A cup! Yikes! I still can't believe I've got a SON! It's just such an alien world to me.

Well, we'll see how our little ball players do. Mary is already showing improvements from last year. She hit a double at last night's practice, and John says she's one of the fastest runners on the team (still needs to work on catching high fly balls). Keith is very excited that he finally gets to play, and seems to do well practicing in the back yard. I actually have a bit of the excitement myself. I know it'll dwindle down a bit by the end of May when I'm all worn out from running to all these games.... Ah well. Here's hoping we have a good season.
