Guilty Pleasure: The Avatar

Mary watched more TV than I would have liked her to in the daycare in which she was situated last year. [I was shocked one day when Keith and Mary mentioned that when this lady had to watch all three of my kids due to my other daycare being closed for the week, they had watched Spiderman II which is um, NOT rated for kids and I felt my permission should have been asked. Oh--her teenage son put it on. But, um...Lady, where were YOU when this not-suitable-for-young-kids movie was put on in your house?] BUT! One good thing came of Mary's TV viewing for that year--she got addicted to The Avatar.

I had heard about the show, of course, but I ignorantly thought that it was probably too "old" of a show for her to watch. But Mary kept talking it up. She had obviously developed a crush on Zuko--the bad guy (oh dear--what to think of that!). Then we happened to catch an episode with her on TV. And then we happened to catch part of a movie. And then John and I became hooked (and, in succession, Keith and Izzy).

With part of our Christmas money, we bought the first season--and watched at least one episode, if not two, a night (um...or more). THEN we had to go and buy the second season. And now we're on the third season--but alas! Only part of it is out on DVD right now.

This is a really, really fun show. Great stories, wonderful characters, awesome writing and dialogue--and the animation's not bad either. I never expected to be so taken away by an anime-like cartoon like that.

We are now on the last DVD that is out there right now. We have two episodes left to watch. THEN WHAT?! What will we do with our precious Avatar time once we're done actually watching it????? WHEN will the new DVD come out? And should we pay the extra money to boost up our Di$h Network so that we get Nick Toons again????

My guilty pleasure is Big Love. I am out of new episodes to watch, so I just keep REWATCHING old ones. That's how much I love it (or how bored I am...)
