WOO HOO!

Yay! Colts won!

Of course, the second half of the game was so boring, I dozed off on the couch when there were five minutes left. Not even the commercials kept my interest. Pretty blah event, but I'm still pretty psyched that the Colts did it. And Prince was pretty cool.

I'm sure I would feel the hype more if we were living in Indiana, but the fact is, I almost forgot this WAS Super Bowl Sunday. Inexcusable, I know.

Bitter cold here. Most of the schools were closed today. Not Mary's, though. Most of the kids at her school are bussed, so I guess they didn't feel the need to close. Of course, Mary has a very long walk from her stop to her sitter's house. John decided to pick her up from school instead (I did find out when I called that her sitter WAS planning on meeting Mary at the stop in the car; just too far to walk in this cold). BRRRR!!!!

We let the older two kids watch the first Harry Potter this weekend. Now, I'm pretty sure that we let them see it last year--but with the disclaimer, as always that this is just PRETEND with guys in costumes and animation and such--no REAL monsters here! Now I'm thinking maybe it was only Mary we let watch the movie. Anyway, they watched and enjoyed it thoroughly. Keith needed constant reminders of the "just pretend; guys in costumes" as he seemed to get nervous while watching it. Mary was fine--until the movie ended. Then it was time for bed, and I swear I kept expecting her to wring her hands she was so anxious that she might might have nightmares. All the calm, blue-in-the-face assurances of "fake, NOT real, PRETEND, GUYS IN COSTUMES" etc. did nothing to appease her. I think she actually worked herself into being scared. Next thing I know, she's crawling in bed with me (yeah, I was an exhausted wimp Saturday night and went to bed at 9:00).

Sunday Keith and Mary spent almost the whole day playing "Harry Potter." Keith was in his element playing Harry and Voldemort (complete with pretend "face" on the back of his head). No more anxious behavior from Mary. She did ask when she could see the second movie. Well, I guess when she gets through the first one without ending up in my bed kicking me all night! Anyway, now I'm sure we've started a trend. I'm expecting to see the "Harry Potter" game being played every day for the next three months. Wouldn't surprise me if Keith wants to be Harry the next Halloween...

So, he pulls out a pencil (wand) and casts spells. It's interesting that Mary didn't latch onto Hermoine, who is a strong character. No doubt, Rowling wanted a balance to Harry Potter. She seems to me to be the kind of child to either raise her hand continually or to do other things because that "work is too simple".
